This new powder sachet manufacturing suite was developed to include the conversion of an existing goods warehouse and the construction of a new extension. The facility has been designed to provide an optimal layout to suit the manufacturing process and is split up into several areas grouped as; manufacturing, packaging, storage and ancillary. The brief required the works to be carried out in two phases.

Phase one involved the completion of the manufacturing facility to enable the client to take delivery of pre-ordered machinery. The co-ordination and installation of all the services was an essential part of this phase. The manufacturing area which is fully temperature and air pressure controlled had to be in operation once the equipment arrived on site. Temporary sealed openings had to be created to enable the large blending machines to be wheeled in and erected internally. Once the machines were in place, the sealed openings were built up and the pressurised interlocking doors inserted.

Phase 2 involved the packaging, storage and ancillary areas. The packaging and storage areas have been designed in accordance with the manufacturing process. The ancillary accommodation includes toilets, communal changing areas, showering facilities and garment storage. This area is split between the 2no. main functions and has been zoned internally to restrict movement between the manufacturing and packaging processes.
The specification required good uniform lighting to all areas with recessed fittings suitable for clean room applications. All finishes have been designed to accommodate cleaning with hot water and detergent especially within the manufacturing areas were finishes to the walls floors and ceilings had to be sealed to provide smooth surfaces and eliminate any ledges/groves etc. The construction methodology was carefully considered on this project due to the very tight timescale involved and the different operations in place.
