Appointed as Contractor’s Designer for the delivery of the Turner Art Gallery which forms part of the Derry City of Culture programme. The Turner Prize is arguably the world’s most prestigious award for contemporary art and this is the first time the award has ever been held outside England.
Refurbishment works within the existing B1 grade listed buildings within the old Ebrington army barrack’s included the creation of four separate art galleries, artist film gallery, reception and breakout areas, box office and Turner Cafe. The main challenge was that careful consideration was given to the sensitive integration of services within the listed building to ensure they were completely hidden from sight but at the same time maintaining good access for future maintenance work. The project was executed under an NEC3 contract, ‘Option A with activity schedule’.
